Crohn's & Colitis Foundation's Team Challenge Highlights Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas
Team Challenge named Official Charity Training Program of Inaugural Event

Las Vegas, NV, (June 22, 2009) –The Inaugural Rock 'n 'Roll Las Vegas Marathon & Half Marathon powered by Zappos.com announces that the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) is the Official Charity of the December 6 event.  CCFA, through its Team Challenge half marathon training program, has enjoyed successful efforts at the Rock 'n' Roll San Jose and Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio events. It will now make the Las Vegas event its marquee race to raise funds to find a cure for the 1.4 million American adults and children living with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, chronic, painful, and often debilitating digestive diseases.

Team Challenge prepares participants to run or walk a half marathon while helping to raise funds to find a cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.  Twenty-seven chapters throughout the nation will recruit runners and walkers, provide 16 week training programs, and offer fundraising advice and assistance. The group will then travel as a team to participate in an unforgettable race weekend in Las Vegas.
Over the event weekend in Las Vegas, Team Challenge participants will celebrate together and have free time to explore all Las Vegas has to offer with highlights including a pre-race pasta party, entertainment along the half marathon course, and a post-race victory party.

"We are pleased that through its Team Challenge program, the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation is partnering with the Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas event in its first year," said Dave Hussa, Director of Charity relations for the Competitor Group.  "We look forward to helping the Foundation achieve its fundraising goals, while raising awareness of these painful and unpredictable diseases. The inaugural event has already become one of the most anticipated races within the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series as runners from throughout the country will take to the Las Vegas strip and support Team Challenge's great cause."

"We are confident that this partnership will further elevate awareness of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and raise much-needed funds for patients who are suffering from them," said Staci Brown, National Event Director for the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation. "With over 1.4 million Americans living with the chronic and debilitating pain of Crohn's and colitis, involvement with this energetic event will allow the Foundation to tap into new markets and reach new heights in its awareness-building and fundraising efforts."

Las Vegas holds a special place in the hearts of CCFA as it is home to several patient honorees suffering from the disease. Dana, a 20-year-old can't remember life without digestive disease. Diagnosed with Crohn's at age 3, she has been in and out of the hospital nearly her whole life, missing out on events like prom and summer break as she recovered from surgeries. Even after enduring a life-threatening complication, on top of all that, this college student embodies hope, perseverance and empathy beyond her years. Dana credits inflammatory bowel disease for having taught her many valuable life lessons that she may have otherwise not learned.

"I have great empathy for those around me. I truly appreciate my life -- each and every day -- and my health," she says. "While living with Crohn's may be tough, it has taught me that I can persevere through anything and be a fighter."

And fighting is what Dana is doing for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis patients across the country—fighting to raise awareness and critical research dollars. Help join in her challenge to change lives and find a cure. Runners and walkers interested in taking part in the Las Vegas event can visit www.ccfa.org or call 866.931.2611 to find a chapter training near you.

About Crohn's Disease & Ulcerative Colitis
Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are painful, medically incurable illnesses that attack the digestive system. Crohn's disease may attack anywhere from the mouth to the anus, while ulcerative colitis inflames only the large intestine (colon). Symptoms may include abdominal pain, persistent diarrhea, rectal bleeding, fever and weight loss. Many patients require hospitalization and surgery.  These illnesses can cause severe complications, including colon cancer in patients with long-term disease. Some 1.4 million American adults and children suffer from Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, with as many as 150,000 under the age of 18.  Most people develop the diseases between the ages of 15 and 35.

About the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation
The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America's mission is to cure Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improve the quality of life of children and adults affected by these diseases. The Foundation ranks third among leading health non-profits in the percentage of expense devoted to research toward a cure, with more than 81 cents of every dollar the Foundation spends goes to mission-critical programs. The Foundation consistently meets the standards of organizations that monitor charities, including the Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance (give.org) and the American Institute of Philanthropy (charitywatch.org).
