About Clinical Trials

Clinical trials of new medications present an opportunity for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to ascertain the safety and effectiveness of their medications; for physicians to find new medications that will help their patients; and for people with IBD to actively participate in the search for the cure for these diseases. However, finding people to participate in trials, or finding trials in your area, sometimes can be a difficult task.

To facilitate the search for trials and participants, CCFA has created the IBD Clinical Trials section. In this section, you will find a list of ongoing trials. We also provide information on genetic studies, so that you can participate in the search for the genes for IBD.

You also will find resources for further listings of clinical trials, important information on getting involved in clinical trials, a glossary of terms that are used in the trial listings, and a feature that details the experiences that some patients have had while being enrolled in a clinical trial. These stories are meant to inspire and encourage you, help you to ask your doctor about potential trials or express any fears and concerns you may have about participating in a trial. These stories will come from many different perspectives, including patients that participated in trials for potential new therapies for ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.

Please keep in mind that you may not yet find a trial in your area, or you may be participating in a trial that is not listed. If you know of a trial that is not listed on this site, and you are a physician, please email us. If you are a patient, please notify your physician about this resource.

IMPORTANT: The purpose of this registry is to provide information about ongoing clinical trials related to IBD. We do require that investigators who wish to be listed provide us with notification that the trial has been approved by their institutional review board (IRB), and each listing is reviewed by the Patient Education Committee of CCFA's National Scientific Advisory Committee. However, apart from studies that are funded by CCFA, the foundation does not endorse or ensure the scientific merit of trials listed in this registry. People who wish to participate in a study should discuss the opportunity with their personal physician.
